How to Set UpTime Monitoring for Your Website in 2 min

Managing over 100 sites can be quite complicated, so I tend to only check up on the bigger ones. As most of my sites don’t require much maintenance some go for months or even years without updates. This used to create problems in the past when I’d have some errors on sites or if they went offline and stayed like that for days and even months until noticed and fixed, which naturally caused significant financial losses.

So I finally got around to it, did some research, and picked a simple uptime monitoring service There are many others that do the same, but this one is fairly easy to use, only takes 2 minutes to set up and it’s free! The free version checks your sites every 30 minutes and emails you if they are down. This is more than enough so I didn’t need the paid version. It also emails a weekly uptime report with the average response time from different locations – that’s how I found out that HostGator shared accounts had a meager 93-99% uptime with response time as slow as 1 sec, while IBH was almost always at 100% and over 10 times faster.

Google webmaster tools, as well as other similar stats providers, also have a similar service and would send you an email alert if your site is offline.

It only takes 2 minutes to set up so go and open an account at one of the free monitoring services, add your main email and several of your main sites over there and it can give you some peace of mind knowing that if your sites are offline you’ll be the first to know!

  1. I also have to monitor sites and I ahve chosen Anturis for this purpose and I don’t regret at all. Of course, I don’t know much about, but Anturis charmed me with its simplicity and all in one monitoring character i.e. it can monitor everything possible.

  2. Have you ever tried Monitance? They’re an SaaS website monitoring company that’s fairly new. Their freemium service is perfect for my small home set up and it’s quite easy to set up. Even for a not so tech savy person like myself. The most convenient thing might be the SMS text messages or emails if anything goes wrong.

  3. Shared Hosting – A lot of internet sites are not huge affairs with hundreds of pages and thousands of files and graphics, and they are targeted towards a particular audience, so they will certainly not obtain as several prospects as the large general sites like Yahoo! that are targeted at everybody which owns the net.

  4. I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your blog.

It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me

to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?

    Superb work!

  5. My relatives all the time say that I am wasting my

time here at net, but I know I am getting familiarity daily by reading

    thes fastidious posts.

  6. Add the site to the article, because only they have a 3-minute site availability check interval on the free plan.
