GoPlay.com Sold for $17,300, A Month Ago – $26,300

Posted in Auctions, NameJet on August 17th, 2008 by Michael – 1 Comment

Namejet had some good time lately auctioning off top generic names for high amounts.

One of these was GoPlay.com, which ended today at $17,300 – decent price for any “obscure” 2 word domain, however it was in fact auctioned a month ago on July, 21 – then the auctioned fetched $26,300.

Probably the winner didn’t pay so it was rerun. As usually second auctions end up lower than previously, however an over 1/3 decrease is quite significant. According to other reports

Auction over at $17,300. Winner this time round only bid $69 in first auction while underbidder in 1st auction ($26,200) only bid to $17,200 today.

GoPlay.com is an excellent domain for any gambling, or gaming site. It’s also a popular brand and many other sites in different extensions use it, hopefully we’ll see this one developed into a top gambling portal.

bj.com – $200,000; anal.net – $90,000 and more

Posted in Auctions, Moniker on August 8th, 2008 by Michael – 4 Comments

bj.com – $200,000; anal.net – $90,000, shemales.net- $60,000, sluts.net – $58,000 and more names sell at the moniker adult expo auction. Which brings close to $600K of sales. A total of 53 domains were sold out of 8700.

Also one cvcv.com sale: debi.com – $5,000

Not too many sales, but still a decent performance for moniker auction.

LLL.com Prices Collapse?

Posted in Auctions, Bido, Forums, NameJet, Opinions, Sedo on August 3rd, 2008 by Michael – 6 Comments

3 char LLL.com

First time I’m seeing 3character.com guide lowering prices and not just lowering, but by over 20% in a month!

3-Letter .com – $6000 (- $1650 since July 1, 2008 report)

3 letter .net lost 3.6% according to the guide.

What’s gonna happen next with the LLL.com? Well no one knows for sure. From a discussion in DomainState:

  • snoopy: Agree, personally I think we will see prices come back into the $3000-$4000 range on the low end.
  • DomainDiscount: Recently sold a 3 letter .com in the mid Euro xx,xxx range. Was an enduser sale though.
  • Globalise: Sold a pair of LLL.coms last week for $130k.
Two weeks ago I bought an LLL.com with mediocre letters for $15k and sold it, two days later, to another domainer for $40k.
  • doughmein: I think it signifies a market correction because these qualify as “token” domains that are being tossed around, and there’s no indication that the lesser quality ones will be in demand by end-users.

My Domaining Strategy + A little Test

Posted in Articles, Auctions, Country tlds, Tips on August 3rd, 2008 by Michael – 1 Comment

How do I make money domaining?

Well by most part it comes to:

  1. know the market well
  2. buy low
  3. sell high

Domaining is a strange market. There are the end user prices and the market/reseller prices for any domain – both can vary a lot and there is a lot of money to be made on these differences.

However the risks are high, so you have to know the market very well. Being able to appraise a domain as close as possible for any specific marketplace is among the most valuable skills for a domainer. read more »

Low Reserves on Sedo

Posted in Auctions, Sedo on July 15th, 2008 by Michael – Be the first to comment

Sedo is notorious for making sellers pick low reserves to “encourage more bidders” and while it sometimes work, frequently there aren’t enough bidders in the first place, so names end up with low prices. This mostly refers to GreatDomains auctions.

Next GreatDomains event has these names in the list, among others:

Attended.com no reserve
Calcium.net $1-$499
Debbie.net no reserve
Doctor.net $5,000-$9,999
Illicit.com $1,000-$4,999
Doorway.com $1,000-$4,999

Now some of these reserves are just ridiculously low, someone will get bargains!
I think low reserves only hurt the sale, there should be either no reserve at all, like on snapnames and bido, or a fair reserve like there is usually in TRAFFIC auctions and good sedo auctions. Low reserves will just reduce the domain’s value in the eyes of the buyer. A quick example is when I recently sold my coriander.com for just $5100 on greatdomains auction with reserve $5k, after it went up to $9k on a sedo auction previously, shy of reaching its reserve. There are simply not enough bidders to create a bidding war to get the price up, especially now due to summer, recession, election, global warming..

VURG started LLLL.com

Posted in LLLL.com, News on July 7th, 2008 by Michael – 2 Comments

www.LLLL.com is the new 4 letter domain portal by VURG, Philip O’Neil:

I have been a big supporter of Namepros in the past couple of years and try to devote some time to helping other members with their domain collections. I love the forums policy of keeping everything free. I expect big things to happen through Namepros in the future. I go by the name VURG and am also involved in other forums with that username including DNForum, DomainState and DNLodge. Online many people call me Vurg, not Phil. (Vurg.com was the first 4 letter domain that I bought.) I also spent a couple of years selling online through the name LessThan96 on eBay, LessThan96.com and LT96.com.

In May 2008, I aquired the domain LLLL.com with the view of using this domain to educate people on LLLL.com (4 letter domains) and provide services. I am currently using this name for blogging but with time plan on improving the domain with other services. This site is all about LLLL.com and so browse around for more info on 4 letter domains.

The site currently has a few interesting articles on LLLL.com domains, chosen sales history and links to auctions. More to come so add the name to your bookmarks.
