Best Way to Get Links For Your New Website

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Lets admit, most domainers don’t have a clue about SEO and while many know links are important for better google rankings, finding these links is no easy task. There are many guides, ebooks, online courses and all kinds of heavy stuff to help you educate yourself about search engine optimization, so I’m not going to do another one of those huge and mainly useless lists, but rather I’ll show my favorite method for getting good quality, on content links.

First a few guidelines for beginners: (more…)

eBay Suing Digital Point over Cookie Stuffing Scheme

Friday, August 29th, 2008
eBay has filed suit against Digital Point Solutions, best known as the owner of one of the more popular web site owner communities, and others over an alleged cookie stuffing scheme.

According to the filing lodged in the Northern California District Court, Shawn Hogan and Digital Point Solutions, Todd Dunning and Kessler’s Flying Circus, and Brian Dunning and Thunderwood Holdings defrauded eBay in a “cookie stuffing” scheme that made it appear that their companies should be paid commissions on eBay affiliate sales.

The scheme worked like this: users were automatically redirected to eBay without clicking on an eBay advertisement, resulting in an affiliate cookie being place on each users computer marked with the defendants affiliate code so that for future purchases they received a cut.

The complaint alleges that the defendants tried to hide their scheme, using “deceptive means to prevent it from discovering the fraud, and to conceal it.” eBay is demanding “compensatory, treble and punitive damages.”

It’s not clear whether users on Digital Point itself were redirected under the scheme, but it would appear from the filing that there was a direct relationship at least on some levels.

In one way, it’s so simple as to be brilliant, but did they really think they could get away with it, or better still that eBay wouldn’t notice?

Needless to say the scheme has been around for almost as long as the Affiliate marketing itself, however lately due to multiple posts on digitalpoint forums it must have spread out widely and gotten  out of hands.

The story is duscussed almost everywhere in the web:

DP thread, 1, 2 , WickedFire, Sitepoint thread, blackhatworld, Digg and many more places. Will be interesting to see how it ends.

Search Engine Strategies Auction Results

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Another Moniker Auction just eneded:  Search Engine Strategies

Most SEO guys can easily pay thousands of $$ for links, but they aren’t willing to spend the money on domains. It’s a shame they still don’t get it: better domain will help the SEO campaign as well, in many ways.

Even though the domains weren’t high quality here, some clear bargains emerged, like  SeoProduct.com for  $300.00

The results aren’t very reassuring this time as well: (more…)

GoPlay.com Sold for $17,300, A Month Ago - $26,300

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Namejet had some good time lately auctioning off top generic names for high amounts.

One of these was GoPlay.com, which ended today at $17,300 - decent price for any “obscure” 2 word domain, however it was in fact auctioned a month ago on July, 21 - then the auctioned fetched $26,300.

Probably the winner didn’t pay so it was rerun. As usually second auctions end up lower than previously, however an over 1/3 decrease is quite significant. According to other reports

Auction over at $17,300. Winner this time round only bid $69 in first auction while underbidder in 1st auction ($26,200) only bid to $17,200 today.

GoPlay.com is an excellent domain for any gambling, or gaming site. It’s also a popular brand and many other sites in different extensions use it, hopefully we’ll see this one developed into a top gambling portal.

$260,000 for TripleCreditReport.com?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Top sale in dnjournal’s report today:

$260,000 for TripleCreditReport.com

Looks quite overprices and suspicious indeed, and btw QuadrupleCreditReport.com is still available, should be worth at least 25% more :D

There are a few threads over at dnforum discussing this here and here

Some have suggested that similar sales might be fake. There can be many reasons to do this: someone trying to get attention to his domain and sell it for a good amount later, or for tax purposes, to get funding etc. There are many ways to fake a sale like that, so this is quite possible. (more…)
