New Type Of Spam: Partnership Proposal
I’ve been getting these emails by the dozens lately. A new spam/scam type is out: partnership proposal emails. I’m still not sure what they want as they never seem to answer when you reply back, but here are some of the emails:

There is a discussion thread about this here, it seems they mostly target casino and gambling sites. This is very strange and makes no sense. If they wanted you to add links they’d at least mention their site. When replying to them you see a weird automated gmail address, like mollienation1834@gmail.com
Any ideas?
All have the same intention post an anchor (text link) in your site to improve the link popularity of the advertised site and this way improve their search engine rankings.
Yeah I got a reply from one of the emails, apparently they want to buy a link for one of their gambling sites. Will see how it goes.

What these people do is end up offering you a very large sum of money for a text link ad on your site…usually around $2000. They send you a check and accidentally pay a lot extra. You end up getting a check for $3000 and they ask you to send back the extra money that they “accidentally” included. So you send back the extra money then the check ends up bouncing and you are left $1000 in the hole. I guess the types of checks they send can take up to 1 year to bounce. I was actually negotiating it with this Todd, which I’m sure is a fake name.
It did look very fishy: reply email address is a random gmail and is different from the address displayed at first and the names seem to vary also. And of course the fact that they sent huge amounts of emails to pretty much any site.
Interesting info - the resonse from Mike is the outcome for the person that falls for the scam
I’ve received two requests so far. One is asking me to add a casino related link to my site for $5 per month. They will pre-pay for 3 months via paypal. I seriously doubt it’s a real offer - the email address is very suspicious.
